Q. Can I bring my laptop and notepad into the reading room?

A. You may bring in your laptop, but not its case. The reading room staff will be happy to offer you Hoover Institution notepaper free of charge for taking notes. All personal property you bring in must be examined on exit. For this reason, you cannot bring in purses, wallets, cameras, scanners, cases for any technical devices, overcoats, hats, bags, notepads and binders. Lockers are available for storage of personal property. See http://www.hoover.org/hila/rules.htm for a full list of rules on using the Archives.

Q. What should I do if I want to donate materials to the Hoover Institution Library and Archives?

A. The Hoover Library and Archives collects primary source materials of permanent research value. The types of documents we collect include diaries, memoirs, unpublished manuscripts, autobiographies, important correspondence and memoranda, leaflets, pamphlets, reports, studies, photographs, and other material that contribute to a better understanding of historical events and major public figures. We generally do not collect printed or published matter or items of a personal nature, such as awards, commendations, personal scrapbooks, collections of clippings from readily accessible newspapers or journals, business records, and the like. We do not collect copies of documents readily available elsewhere.
