Plaque honoring Herbert Hoover unveiled in Poznan, Poland

Plaque honoring Herbert Hoover in Poznan, Poland

This plaque was unveiled in Poznan on May 4, 2005, in what used to be Hoover Plaza, named in honor of Herbert Hoover's humanitarian assistance to the Polish people. Mrs. Joan Ashe, wife of U.S. ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe, presided over the event in the presence of the mayor of Poznan and other local dignitaries. The plaque ceremony was a prelude to the opening in Poznan of the exhibition "An American Friendship: Herbert Hoover and Poland," which documents Hoover's assistance, personal contacts, and friendship with the people of Poland. Poznan is the third city in Poland, after Warsaw and Lodz, to host the exhibition; Cracow follows. The exhibition is funded by grants from the Taube Family Foundation, Mrs. Henrietta Fankhauser, the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, and the Hoover Institution.
